Gorgeous! If you're thinking of taking the donkeys, do so on the way up. Way down is a bit scary and physically unpleasant (w/o getting too graphic).

4 cruise liners in harbour meant we didn't even try to board our pre paid trip to volcano as th crush was uninviting. Still it was the only down day.

Disappointed heard so much about hear, it’s beautiful from the ship but once u get to it just a lot of souvenir shops, no flat ground and to get to it u have 3 options, donkey ride 6 euro ow , walk 547 steps up or down or take a gondola up or down 6 euro each way, gondola could also have long lines we waited for over an hour coming down.

Really lovely island. Visited Oia by boat and bus back to Fira. The only ways down to the port are by cable car, donkey or walk. The cable car had a massive queue and we would not use the donkeys on principle (although they did appear well cared for). Opted for the walk which is pretty steep and has a large amount of donkey droppings.

If you're fit and like to hike, take an early tender ashore and hike up the "donkey road" -- fantastic views!
