We took a boat trip from Thira to Oia, which included a bus transfer back to Thira. The queue to got on the cable car was huge and would have taken ages. The boat tip was a lovely way to see a bit more of the island. We walked down the hill past all of the donkeys and horses, it was really sad to see so many be forced to carry people up and down quite a steep hill, much better to walk!! Some lovely shops to have a wander round!

If you are willing to be terrified, try riding up on the donkey. Otherwise, don't be afraid to play it safe- you will probably regret it otherwise....:)

A bus ride took us to Kamari's black stone beach for a quite repast in the hot sun; we found a dive site and hired a dive guide for a one-tank boat dive which was lovely and well worth the time and money.

Service providers once you get on shore aren’t the best at describing what your experience will be. We made our own excursion up and it was great.

Fabulous vistas, great excursion, with a lovely guide. Give the winery a miss, although it does have gorgeous views. Visit Oia for great photo ops.

The ship was tendered at Santorini. We took a tour from the ship to visit the Akotiri ruins and the georgeous Oia. First, a boat took us to the port of Santorini. We then took a bus to go up hill to visit the ruin of Akotiri at the south of the island, ruins deemed to be the remainings of the lost Atlantis. Our guide was interresting and knowledgeable, plus there was an archeologue in our group also visiting as well. We returned to the bus and went to the fabulous Oia. What a nice place, almost mythic, nice shopping to do…we have taken there our nicest pictures. It was of course too hot and there were too many tourists..LOL.. Then the bus took us back to Thira. Before the guide leaves us, she shown us where the teleferic was…not very far in fact. We walked a little the main street, stopped on a terrasse, there were a lot of bars, restaurants, cafes all with the most fantastic view on the ship waiting in the bay and where it was easy to appreciate the trace left by the volcano. It is a chance we did not wait too long to go to the teleferic as there was a long wait to go down…LOL

Beautiful place but very crowded due to three the cruise ships in port. Also the wind was blowing on shore making stern to docking very difficult. Two hour wait in line for cable car.
