We rented a car in Skagway and drove to emerald lake. It was nice to have the freedom to go as slow as we wanted. We stopped for lunch in Carcross and of course we had Poutine. You do need your passport when you cross the border. We saw many of our fellow passengers at the suspension bridge on one of the excursions they were rushed along. We took our time and then continued up the highway while they headed back to the ship. I felt sorry for them because they missed such beautiful country.

We just booked the Liarsville Salmon Bake & Gold Panning. All you can eat, complimentary ship transfers, etc. $69 p/p. Skagway is a cool little town and much can be done on foot seeing the town. Train route has been shortened and turns around at the Canadian border. Still hasn't fully recovered from the 2 year shutdown.

The white pass and Yukon route railroad is excellent if you have not done it. They are doing the round-trip summit trips only this year, but you actually spend more time on the train on those than you did on the one-way trips into Canada. If you want to go into the Yukon, I suggest the UConn small bus tour with Chilkoot Charters.

They stopped the train going into Canada for 2022 for now. :(

We rented a car at Avis and drove the Yukon Highway, which parallels the train route. We stopped anywhere we wanted for photos and even went past where the train normally ends in Carcross (for 2022 it doesn’t even go into Canada). We stopped at the Tutshi dogsled camp on the way back and the Yukon Suspension Bridge. We spent a total of 6.5 hrs and 4.5 gallons of gas.
