What’s with all the jewelry stores in these towns? Bring in more local artists and their wares to be sold.

We found the local Catholic church which may be the smallest cathedral in the world. It was nice to be at mass with the local citizens and see the beauty of their more than a 100 year old church. The town itself is a larger city. We enjoyed exploring it. but not as much as the other towns we visited.

We rented a car and toured the entire day. We walked on various trails and we especially enjoyed seeing The National Shrine of St. Therese. The church there was so beautiful. We took a two mile trail to see the Mendenhall glacier and other beautiful walking trails.

We went whale watching through Alaska Galore Tours and had an epic time! The captain of the Rip Tide informed us that we were not to get our hopes up for Orcas because they only showed up about 10% of the time. We saw one orca 10 mintues later, whales lunge feeding for about 20 mintues, another pod of orcas on the way back and some seals sleeping on a buoy. When the ship returned to the dock, the captain pointed out an eagle in the top of a tree right next to the dock as well as the nest right below the eagle.

We did a tour of the city and the Mendenhall Glacier. It was amazing. you can go to the glacier via city bus and then walk. it is about a mile to the glacier but the walk was very nice.

Took a helicopter to the Mendenhall Glacier and then went dog sledding. It was AMAZING!! We had booked this on our last cruise but it was cancelled due to weather. We were told to go in June as they have the least amount of cancellations. We hit it just right as they had cancelled the two prior days. There were 4 of us in the helicopter plus the pilot. Comfortable and beautiful flight. There were puppies as well as the sled dogs on the glacier. Over 200 dogs! The entire staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Our “musher” was so cute and had so much information. A great experience.

We did a private whale watching excursion with Harm's and Marv's. It was exceptional! We had a great captain named Brandon, fabulous weather and saw an abundance of Humpback whales. The sandwiches we ordered for the trip hit the spot when we got hungry and the information we received about the whales was great. This excursion was the highlight of our cruise without question. I highly recommend Harv's and Marv's. They are reliable and professional.

Walked around in morning. Went to Tracy’s Crab Shack for lunch. I highly recommend! I shared the combo and it was plenty of food for two people. The crab sauce was amazing and we ended up buying a bottle from them. We took the public bus to Mendenhall. About 1hr on the bus + 1.5 mile walk to the visitor center. The walk is paved and pretty flat. The walk to the falls is not too hard and worth the views. Watch the 15 minute video in the visitor center. Back in Juneau, we rode the Mt. Roberts Tram. There are some nice trails and good wildlife information at the top. They even let you know the last time to ride down for each of the ships in port that day.”
