We did the Best of Juneau excursion. It was well worth it. We saw the Mendenhall Glacier, took a boat to whale watch in Auke Bay, where we saw mostly humpbacks, including Flame and her calf Bunsen cavorting near the boat. Afterwards, we had a delicious grilled salmon meal at a lodge on the waterfront.

The logistics are terrible. Although NCL attempts to stagger passengers from departing the area when you muster for your excursions is hectic and confusing. I gave it three stars because we liked the Mendenhall and Mt. Gibson excursion.

More self guided hiking. Mendenhall Glacier is a super easy walk and well worth it! Hiking above the gondola/tram is a little more challenging but very nice. Saw a pod of Orcas while riding up the mountain.

We took the Photo Safari tour. It was supposed to be guided by a photographer on a walk to the glacier and then on a whale watching boat. The walk to the glacier was a disappointing. Our guide was not interested in photography, and he spent all his time talking about conservation. We were in the woods for over two hours and ended up with a distant view of the glacier for a couple minutes Before being rushed back to the bus because we were late. Our guide spent the tour talking about his interests in conservation, not photography. The boat tour was much better because we did see many whales, Eagles, and seals and I was able to capture a few great shots.
