Best outfit for AK- waterproof hiking shoes & waterproof jacket. I’m finishing up my cruise & it was very warm and unusually not raining this past week. If you go out on a boat excursion layer up because it will be cold & windy outside. Expect rain and hopefully you won’t have rain!

Plan for rain and 60 to 70 weather. Ought of my 2 Alaskan cruises I have yet to need rain gear BUT everyone always says it normally rainy. I just buy a couple of cheap $1 or $2 emergency rain poncho to carry just in case.

average temps in August of about 63°F with lows into the mid 40's. average rainfall for August is just over 5'. Bring water resistant footwear, a raincoat or umbrella.

Thanks for the pointers everyone! We’re sailing Alaska for the first time in Aug and the only thing I hadn’t ordered were waterproof hiking shoes. Even if it doesn’t rain I’d rather have them than wet feet all day! 😉

layer your clothes and take an umbrella

Hello, I was in Juneau 2 days ago, it was on 60°. We went to the Glacier and literally were sweating while walking to the falls. My advice, wear layers and bring a bag, so you can take some clothes off if needed and put it away or viceversa.

The last time we were there in August, it was warm & sunny. We were in TShirts & I was wishing I had packed shorts. But the weather can change from day to day. I suggest putting Juneau on your weather app & checking it as you get closer to departure.

Put the Juneau weather app on your phone.

I made my whole family pack their jackets and we ended up carrying them. It was very warm. I think it was around 70 degrees. Definitely a summer day in Juneau.

Layering is the best. Usually chilly in am. Tshirts, light jacket, and sometimes a hat or toboggan as some say. I got a rain poncho from Amazon. Came in handy 1 time. I also bought plastic shoe covers for rain but never had to use them. If it is cloudy, will be cooler. I like carrying a small backpack with these items. Sunglasses. I bring bug spray but haven’t needed it. Large mosquitos

We went last year August and honestly it all depends at each stop. That particular week Juneau was grey and cloudy. Light rain on and off. The high was only around 14 celcius. Do bring a light jacket or windbreaker, preferably waterproof (most days on the ship it's windy and on land). This weather is expected, but don't let that discouraged you to enjoy the beauty of Alaska.

Watch some cruising videos about Alaska and what to wear on YouTube. I’ve been to Alaska twice. Both times in September. First time it was warm. Only sprinkled once. Second time a little cooler but honestly not that cold. It varies widely. Have a great cruise!
