Got very close to Dawes Glacier and then did 360 and another 180 to get turned around to go back out. Saw a lot of ice floating in the water and heard the calving. So glad we woke up early and could see it from our beds. It was cold, like being in an ice box. The only time that I needed ear warmers and gloves. Nixon's narration could not be heard on the veranda because of conservationism. So we had to go inside to listen, then outside to see. This glacier is better than Mendenhall. There is a small boat that tied up to the Solstice and off loaded about 100 people to go on an excursion right up to the glacier then the boat came back and tied up again to bring people back on ship.

We think that the time alloted for this experience was far to short. We think that the Dawes Glacier is not nearly as exciting as some of the other Glaciers we have seen on previous Alaska Cruises.
