December 2015 - Grandeur of the Seas to Caribbean - Eastern
Grand Turk Island - t’s a great place to do nothing and just go with the flow. It’s so gorgeous here. Most people think Half Moon Cay has the most beautiful water and i get that, but Grand Turk is the most beautiful to me. I could just stare at the beach all day. Aside from being mesmerized by the ocean, we went to Margaritaville and then shopped around for some souvenirs. (This Review is for last year’s cruise)
Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - I feel like I can’t really rate the area, because we never left the port. We went to Fat Tuesday and had a couple of daiquiris. We did a lot of souvenir shopping for family. It was a nice and easy day. Nothing negative to say.
Nassau, Bahamas - Nassau was a beautiful place. The water was beautiful and the weather was amazing! Not too hot, a nice and breezy day. We took a ferry to Paradise Island. When I was in high school I always said that I wanted to go to paradise island, so standing in front of the Royal Towers was amazing to me. It was like fulfilling a wish to my teenage self. We hung out around the towers and stopped at the candy store and ate at the village burger shack. I wanted to go to the daiquiri shack, but it was closed. We bought some souvenirs and some drinks under the bridge while we waited for the ferry to come back. I prepared myself for the sales people, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. After a “no, thank you” they left you alone. To me, it wasn’t as overwhelming as St Maarten, but everyone’s experience is different.
Port Canaveral, Florida - We did the Epcot excursion. It was a 10hr trip duration. Most people said not to do it because it wasn’t enough time, but we did it anyway. I love theme parks, but I have a 4 to 5 hour limit, especially when it’s hot. So I knew that it would be enough time for me. I listened to some people who said that you should have a realistic plan. I went in with the intentions of riding soarin’ & test track and trying a list of foods from world showcase. We did everything that we wanted to do with “a Hour and 30 mins” to spare. So we rode 2 more rides that had no wait time (spaceship earth and Nemo & friends) and shopped around at the stores. I had a great time, but I was ready to go. It felt great when we first got there and then it got hot. We had a total of 6 hours at the park. It took exactly one hour from the bus leaving the port and passing the welcome to Disney world sign. It was an extra 15 mins to get to the monorails. There were way more people going to Magic Kingdom so we lucked out and were able to be first in line for the train. I will say that if you want to save a little extra time Do Not carry a bag or purse. There are two lines of security checks for bags. (One at the monorails and one at the theme park). If you don’t have a bag you get to go straight through. I just had a hip pocket with my passport, cards, carnival key card and cell phone . Cargo shorts/capri pockets would’ve been great. It took a total of 2 hours to get in the park (counting getting there and all the lines). You can save 30 mins if you don’t bring a bag. All in all I had a great time. We got to do everything we wanted and more.
Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic - Wow! I can't believe this port got only 2.5 stars. This is my favorite port. I've only been to 7 islands, but I had the most fun here. We did the tour. We had a blast!
