January 2015 - Jewel of the Seas to Caribbean - Southern
We are diamond members with Royal Caribbean and have had many other cruise experiences with other lines. When we booked in October, 2013, the first port of call was listed as Tortola. As the departure date neared, the port was changed to St. Thomas. So glad we checked, since we were planning on meeting relatives in Tortola. We called RC and their "offshore" representatives are not always able to comprehend what you try to communicate. PLEASE get these reps back in the US!
Once onboard, we were not able to book excursions from our stateroom since the RCTV was not working, so we had to wait on a long line at the Shore Excursion Desk to book what we wanted.
The "free" internet is free because you can't get onto the internet. After complaining to Guest Relations, we were issued a 1/2 hour credit, and since the claim is business friendly and we had to work, we also purchased two additional hours.
There is an inconsistent tracking system for gratis drinks for diamond members. We had to remind bartenders that we were eligible for some drinks at no charge each day.
The cocktail hour for the Diamond Members was staffed by only one bartender who could not take care of all of the drink orders.
After leaving Barbados (the last port) the ship experienced a power failure. The theatre was closed, no a/c, casino closed, some toilets did not work and many disgusted passengers. We considered sleeping on lounges at the pool for the night, but went back to our cabin at midnight. There was NO mention of any compensation to the passengers for this inconvenience.
