Allure of the Seas

February 2015 - Allure of the Seas to Caribbean - Western

Allure of the Seas cruise, February, 2015

The Allure is a beautiful ship, wonderful for families and all ages.  There is so much to do on board, you can never be bored, in fact, it's difficult to fit in all the things you want to do.  The shows are all top notch, the food was wonderful, and our service at early seating was terrific.  We booked three balcony cabins, side by side on the 14th rear deck, and were able to watch the water shows from our balconies.  The room steward opened up the divider between the three balconies, so we had a great place to relax together.  Our only mild complaint was that the elevators took too long to get to the 14th deck at busy times, and then a lot of them were full when they arrived.  We had similar cabins on the Oasis a few years ago, but on the 11th deck, and that seemed to work out better.

Celebrity Infinity

January 2014 - Celebrity Infinity to South America

Our 14 day South American cruise on Celebrity Infinity

The Infinity is a beautiful ship, the food is supurb, and the staff is wonderful.  We have been on several Celebrity cruises, and have never been disappointed by the ships or staff.

We were disappointed this time, because due to circumstances beyond Celebrity's control such as weather, a dock strike, and a fellow passenger who fell ill and had to be transported by the Infinity, we spent five consecutive days at sea, as well as the planned sea days.  We missed several ports where we had booked excursions, and should have checked before we booked the cruise to see how many tender days were included.  These tender days are totally dependent on weather conditions, and it is extremly important when choosing an itinerary in a location or locations where the weather can be very unpredictable.  We had three separate locations where we could have seen penguins, but all three of these were cancelled for one of the above reasons.

When we booked our cruise, (onboard an earlier Royal Caribbean cruise), we were assured that all three cabins were together since we spend a lot of time in each other's rooms.  We specifically requested that all the cabins be together in the front of the ship, but they neglected to tell us that a "crew only" set of doors with a stairwell inside was between our rooms and made it very inconvenient, especially since two of the passengers had knee problems, and didn't need the long walk  to the nearest lobby, and around to the other side of the ship.

We did have our group of six friends, and tried to play cards on sea days, only to find out that there is no card room onboard, and the hours are very restrictive as to when you can use other locations on the ship.   We never had a day when it was warm enough to sit by the pool, even when the sun was shining, and you can only spend so much time in the casino.  The kitchen tour and cooking demonstrations were fun as well as the daily trivial pursuit, but there should be more to do that sit wrapped up in blankets, reading or sleeping.

Considering the amount of money spent on this trip, I would not recommend recommend it, especially if you are an active person.

mjvoor's Tips

Passau, Germany - One of our favorite towns. St Stephens Catherdral is one of the most beautiful we've ever seen. Don't miss it!
Vienna, Austria - This is a great stop because it's easy to leave the ship and travel by subway into the city to visit the various sites. We went to the big art museum, and although it had a wonderful Egyptian exhibit, and a lot of art, we were told that there was a nearby art museum with lots of Impressionist paintings which would have been more to our liking.
Kinderdijk, Netherlands - We were all determined to get off and enjoy the windmills at Kinderdijk, so we took our large Viking umbrellas and started out. Unfortunately, it was cold, windy, and pouring rain, so many of us tried but decided it wasn't worth getting soaked. If it's raining and cold, I would pass because quite a few of us got colds.
Koblenz, Germany - Lovely, but I would advise against the castle tour and ride the cable car to the fortress instead. The ground was wet in the castle and the walk was slippery and treacherous. Several people fell because there was nothing to hold on to once you started down the walk to return. We felt that our tour guide should have let people know about those conditions before we were in that situation.
Viking Embla Viking Embla - The Viking Embla was a newer, modern ship. We loved he idea of the veranda, but we didn't really use it much because of the locks and cool weather. I feel that a French Balcony would have been fine also because you still have the large sliding glass doors which open to the outside.
Celebrity Reflection Celebrity Reflection - Cabin 6204 was in a perfect location, just a few cabins from the elevator lobby, and very close to the dining room, buffet, and center of ship. The ship design made it much easier to get around in than other ships we've been on.
Cozumel, Mexico - Lots to do, but friends were disappointed in the snorkling excursion. Not worth the money.
Falmouth, Jamaica - The shops just off the ship were fine, but the town just outside the port was a slittle scary. We took an excursion to have high tea at a chateau in the mountains, and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Allure of the Seas Allure of the Seas - We found that eating breakfast on the 3rd deck dining room was much better than battling the crowds at the buffet. We could order off the menu if we desired, and if in a hurry, there was a full buffet to choose from.
