December 2015 - 5 Night Bahamas (Jacksonville Roundtrip) Cruise on Carnival Fascination
This was our 6th or 7th cruise (at least 3 on another Carnival ship) and there were many good points , i.e. cabin space utilization (it didn't feel especially cramped in our window room), big shower (by cruise standards),very friendly cabin and wait staff, the Lido deck food was much better than most other cruises we took.......BUT there were many things we didn't like; i.e., asking for early dining four months before the cruise and being given late dining because our priority wasn't high enough to warrant bumping another couple to late dining (I eventually got early dining after the first night because I'm diabetic but it wasn't easy), the main theater entertainment was the worst or second worst we've experienced on a cruise (it was too loud) -- the singers were screaming into their microphones with too much distortion coming through the speakers-- we also didn't like the columns throughout the theater supporting the ceiling and balcony (too many bad seats)--we much prefer stadium seating (not couches with small tables) that other cruise lines offer, the main dining food was just so-so (I had to send back one meal and the other diners at our table who have cruised several times were also unimpressed with the food. Also there was no specific place allocated for dancing, the piano bar was drowned out by the louder music coming from the atrium and piped into the hallways, so the performer mainly talked to the few people who waited for a lull in the distraction. We eventually danced in the hallway but it was cramped and awkward. The library had numerous games for our use, but none of the games had all the pieces; i.e., the Chinese checkers had 4 boards but not enough colored balls to support even one board, the red checkers were missing two pieces, the yahtzee game had only one dice, the chess set was missing a handful of pieces and we didn't even try to make a puzzle (expecting the same missing pieces. The movie night (only offered once in 5 days) was held in a much too small room (not the main theater) and I assume the room held 150 people (out of over 2,000 guests)--most other ships offer in room new release movies or at least a much bigger venue to see the show.
In conclusion, if this is someone's first, I'm fairly sure they will be impressed---but for a seasoned cruiser, you might want to pass this ship up.
