January 2015 - Disney Fantasy to Caribbean - Eastern

Great cruise if traveling with children

Went on this Disney cruise with a total of 5 adults (one 30 year old in wheelchair).  We knew we would encounter children, but figured at this time of the year there many not be as many.  Thought wrong.  Disney caters to the families with children and tries to give the adults some pampering as well.  We did enjoy the adult areas, but think they could use a bigger pool area for adults. In this area, the seating for sunning is not very big and you found people trying to locate somewhere to sit. The pool is also very small and makes for a crowd when the sun is out.   Dining was an adventure - as we rotated between 3 different dining rooms.  The only thing I would have liked, is that if Disney could have had a section where they seated those groups that consisted of adults only.  We happen to have ended up beside of a crying baby that cried most nights at dinner.  We do realize that we were on a Disney cruise and did not complain, but now we know what you "may" run into.

We took this cruise after hearing from other couples that went with out children (age group 60-70), they said you didn't really see the children.  So with this in mind, we went ahead and booked our cruise.  I had always wanted to go on a Disney Cruise and am happy that I did.  The shows were fantastic, the food selection was great and the wait staff was wonderful.

Also, in traveling with a handicapped person confined to a wheelchair - the handicapped room was great, big and spacious and I think would have accommodated up to 5 people.  We slept 3 in the room, had plenty of space for the wheelchair to get around.  Even had a balcony they could get out on. I will say, that I was disappointed that there was not that special treatment for our handicapped party, as we have had on other ships.  When we have been on other cruise lines, we were met at the beginning of checking in, had someone who walked us through the crowds and help us maneuver getting on the ship with no problems.  And, when the cruise was over, we were met by the same person and escorted off the ship with their assistance.  It helps getting through the hordes of people crowding around the lobby trying to get off the boat.  (we also found that getting off the boat was we disorganized, we are use to being called by sections to get off cruise ships.  This was not the case on the Disney cruise - everyone kept piling into the lobby and trying to get off all at one time.....

So, if you don't mind possibly getting stuck beside crying children in the dining room and theatre, you should give it a try.   Will a book another Disney cruise? Probably not.  But at least I gave it a try, had a great time and enjoyed the week.

Again, if you are traveling with children, it would be a great cruise.  They cater to you and your family.  There is so much to do and see for you and your children.  Castaway Cay is a great relaxing place and they even have a section for adults only.  There are trams that take you to the different area on the island.
