May 2017 - 7 Night Western Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Escape

This was a FABULOUS vacation! We have 3 teenagers, ages 13, 15, and 18, and this was our first cruise as a family. The ship was very clean, the cabins were just big enough with plenty of storage (we stayed in a family suite), the crew was very friendly and super helpful, and the food was all pretty good with a few standouts (you've got to have their pineapple sorbet!). Yes, the ship was a bit crowded as it is huge, but we only really noticed it on the first embarkation day before the staterooms were open and when waiting for elevators. We never had to wait long, if ever, for anything. My biggest tip: reserve all of the shows you want to see and all of your dinners ahead of time on My NCL. It costs nothing, but things do fill up quickly and you won't be able to get in without reservations. Many of the shows are great, so you won't want to miss them. We'd definitely cruise with Norwegian again!

Cruise tips

Harvest Caye, Belize

Not worth getting off of the cruise ship...since this is Norwegian's private island, they can charge obscene prices for everything and they do. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if they offered high-quality services and amenities that are better than other places, but their ziplines were lame compared to ones at other ports, the rope course on the ship was bigger and better than the one on the island, and their beach was awful. The "sand" was crushed seashells and rock which were super painful to walk on barefoot. Also annoying, in order to rent a paddle board you had to be 16 years old, which is completely ridiculous.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Honduras was the most gorgeous place we ported at, and our favorite! We booked an excursion through this app to visit the monkeys that crawl all over you and snorkel in the West End at a resort. Our tour guide, Ron, was fabulous, sharing all sorts of info about the island and it's people. We can't wait to go back!
