Viking Vidar

March 2016 - Viking Vidar to River Cruises - Europe

Rhine Rhapsody

3/27/2016 Rhine Rhapsody.  10 days from Basel Switzerland to Paris, France. A short wonderful breathtaking cruise from Basel, Switzerland to Germany towns, to Luxembourg and ending in Paris, France.  This cruise is available only a couple of times at the start of the year.  Ours is the first trip for 2016 for Viking Vidar.  Some passengers canceled their trip because of last week's Brussels terrorist bombing, Only 60 passengers pushed thru and we all have a fabulous trip with almost a ratio of one crew to one passenger.  We were pampered, spoiled and have a wonderful time.  For a New Yorker, I find Switzerland and Paris expensive, but what the heck, we were on vacation.

Viking Mimir

November 2015 - Viking Mimir to Europe

14 Days Grand European Tour with Viking River Cruise ( + 2 days pre cruise in Amsterdam)

In a word Fabulous.  Although there was a low water level situation in all of Europe in almost major rivers that we went through, Viking ( not their fault water is low )  made the transition seamless.  Yes, we have to change ship twice and it entailed packing and unpacking,  But Viking, for the first time in their history, made sure that the same crew came with us until the end of the tour.  We have the same Program Director, all the dining staff, and the Room Stewards. Concierge and Front Desk people.  Their services were impeccable and utterly professional.  The passengers had no cause for complaints.  Viking even gave us a 15% voucher for a future cruise, a free Vienna Chamber Music concert.  I sure am going to use Viking again,  Tip:  Viking has the world's largest fleet of river ships.  In case of need of ship swapping, there would always be available similar ships to use,  What more could you ask ?

Star Princess

February 2015 - Star Princess to Hawaii

15 days San Francisco to Hawaii cruise

The cruise staff was very good, excellent wait staff, good shows, delicious food, beautiful scenery.  Wasn't able to stop at Kauai due to strong winds, but that's Mother Nature.  Otherwise all the shore excursions to Oahu, Hilo and Maui are just wonderful.  .  Can't ask for more,  Go.

Norwegian Pearl

May 2013 - Norwegian Pearl to Alaska - Inside Passage

7 Day Glacier Bay, Alaska

Going to Alaska should be in everyone's bucket list. It is the most wonderful place on earth. So much different from our regular way of life. You would see places where human beings never set foot on. Pristine places, ice age glaciers, amazing sea creatures. Awe inspiring indeed. You see God's creation in all its amazing places. And the people are very nice. Support Alaska. It is truly our very own.

lfinnewyork's Tips

Trier, Germany - Went to the Luxembourg American Cemetery, Very serene and heartbreaking place,
End Of Vacation - The cruise has a two day in Paris, France. Wonderful and romantic.
Basel, Switzerland - Went with the whole day optional tour of Highlight of the Alps. Saw wood crafting , quaint towns and skiing.
Koblenz, Germany - Do not miss the Marksburg castle, You can imagine how the people lived a long time ago in that castle.
Viking Vidar Viking Vidar - Highlights of the Alps , an optional tour in Basel, Switzerland is somewhat overrated and very expensive. No need to pay the package drink, there's plenty of free wine, and beers during meal times, and no corkage fee when you bring it to the dining room. Wines and beer are dirt cheap in Europe.
Amsterdam, Netherlands - Go see Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House, Red Light District, Canal Ride, and even the Sex Museum,
Viking Mimir Viking Mimir - We didn't board Viking Mimir, because of low water level in Europe. Instead we boarded Viking Eistla, then Viking Baldur, then Viking Emla. They are all Longships, spanking new, clean and superbly efficient. in common bathrooms, they use cotton towels for drying hands. Fabulous.
Hilo, Hawaii - Beautiful place with a hometown feeling, Nice to be able to retire there.
Honolulu, Oahu - Wonderful. Did a lot of Hawaiian souvenirs shopping in Walmart, Excellent prices.
Lahaina, Maui - We were able to go to a farm and later to a macadamia processing plant.
Star Princess Star Princess - I love this smaller ship, not too overwhelming, Easier access from one end to the other or to other levels. Atmosphere is more friendlier .
Norwegian Pearl Norwegian Pearl - Make it a point to go watch their entertainment every night. Simply superb. And the singers, specially Arvin and Emily, wonderful lounge singers.
