Norwegian Sun

February 2016 - Norwegian Sun to South America

14 Night South America Westbound - Buenos Aries to Santiago

It was a great tour, good weather, excellent tours, knowledgeable guides, and nice bus rides.  It was great to see S.A. through the eyes of nationals - their excitement about their country radiated in what they said.

I still prefer Norwegian Cruise Lines - trips are always well done!!!!

ldwallinga's Tips

Valparaiso (Santiago), Chile - We did a private tour by South American Tour Company and were able to see a lot of Valpariso, Via Del Mar, and Santiago as we were dropped off at the airport.
Puerto Madryn, Argentina - We did not take a tour here because we've seen penquins, sea lions, and the sheep shearing didn't interest us. We just walked ashore, did a little shopping and then sat on the dock for a while and watched trash being taking off the ship and fresh vegetables loaded on the ship. Quite an operation to run a cruise line!
Cruise Cape Horn - Fabulous experience and the weather couldn't have been better.
Punta Arenas, Chile - Punta Arenas Highlights - really enjoyed walking through the Pioneer Cementery.
Cruise Chilean Fjords - We're great but we needed to hurry to the next port because of a medical emergency on board.
Puerto Montt, Chile - Had a tour of Puerto Varas and Fruitillar and enjoyed sitting by the Llanquihue Lake and were able to see the snowcapped volcanoes. A very nice sight.
Puerto Chacabuco, Chile - We were able to spend the night in the port area with beautiful mountains coming right into the water. It was lovely sitting on our deck. The ship offered extra tender rides that evening - but we choose to just enjoy the scenery and wait until morning for our Puerto Chacabuco and surroundings. Again very lovely visiting Aiysen and the Rio Simson National Reserve.
Cruise Strait Of Magellan - Most of the straits was done in the very early morning and it was dark. Once we got to the Pacific Ocean - we had rough seas. But neither of us get sea sick - we are fortunate.
Buenos Aires, Argentina - We came a day early but were so tired after the flight we just rested in our motel room. But the city actually looked very nice for the short walk that we took.
Norwegian Sun Norwegian Sun - We ate breakfast and supper in Seven Seas and lunch we usually went to the buffet for a cup of coffee and an ice cream cone.
