August 2010 - Carnival Valor to Caribbean - Western
Grand Turk Island - Experienced cruiser, one of my favorite stops! Just walk right off the boat and onto the beach! We got super overpriced Margaritaville this time- wouldn't do that again. Next time I will walk back on the boat and get lunch. A dream port for those that just want to sit on a close-by, beautiful beach!
San Juan, Puerto Rico - El Morro fort was really something to see! There is a free trolley running around but it rarely came by. We walked a ways and had authentic Puerto Rican food. My sister bought a ko LV purse for a decent price. I hear the other side of San Juan is more beautiful, but if you appreciate history, the fort was really something to see!
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas - Grabbed a cab to Maegan's Bay for $8 a piece plus $5 more for entrance fee. The beach itself is great, but few amenities and not enough chairs. The day we were here, there were FIVE cruise ships in port and the beach was so crowded! When I was there a year before, we were 2 of 4 people on the beach!
Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic - A wonderful port! All we had to do was walk off the boat and this glorious pool area was ours to use for the day! We paid $20 for an umbrella and hopped back on the ship for lunch. Back out to the pool until the last minute meeting amazing people and just people watching. Bring a couple dollars for the employees to give you a lift to and from the ship- a bearable walk but a fun ride!
