About jgray37000

We live on an old farm with our 6 dogs and 5 cats. The barns are empty now, except for a few geese and some cats. We miss the horses, goats, chickens and llama...but not the work! LOL. Lately, the years of pushing-it-to-the-limit are taking their toll....lots of surgeries for both of us, repairing the damage from the years. Oh well, as they say. "better to wear out than to rust out"!!

Seven Seas Navigator

November 2014 - Seven Seas Navigator to Caribbean

Fabulous crew...noisy, vibrating ship. There are not enough tours that are acessible to olde

We love Regent. The food is always splendid and the crew is always fabulous. But "Navigator" was an astonishing disappointment for us. The ship seems old, and is incredibly noisy. Even in our Penthouse suite midships, we were disturbed with appalling noises and vibrations from the engines. No one from the crew made any reference to these startling noises...they were like aural Emperor's new Clothes.."if we don't mention it, it isn't there."

Also we were disappointed that the Captain did not sound the ships whistle entering or leaving ports. When asked, he called it "noise pollution!" Well! I guess he doesn't realize how much we passengers like it. And the ports make a lot of money off these cruises, so I'll bet they like it, too!

Please, Regent Powers that Be, tell your captains to sound that horn...or maybe we will switch to Disney.

Seven Seas Navigator

November 2014 - Seven Seas Navigator to Caribbean

Seven Seas Voyager

June 2014 - Seven Seas Voyager to Europe - Northern Europe

"Truly 6 stars!"

Truly luxurious, and economical because EVERYTHING is included!

This ship was beautiful, welcoming and SPOTLESS. Our cabin had a huge walk-in closet, separate sitting area, vanity table abd desk and lovely teak balcony. There was always fresh fruit and the bar was kept stocked. The food onboard was extremely good and the dining venues and staff were outstanding. There was lots to do on the ship and the free ground tours were wonderful. It was over too quickly! We are booking a 17-day voyage with Regent for this Fall.

jgray37000's Tips

Stockholm, Sweden - Be sure to watch the wonderful scenery as you sail through the archipelago toward Stockholm. It takes several hours and it's beautiful.
Portland, Maine - Be sure to shop in the boutiques in Old Port. Cafe tables and chairs for the husbands. Smart!
Charleston, South Carolina - If you rent a car,be sure to drive over to Isle of Palms. BEAUTIFUL beach. And shop in Mt Pleasant on the way over.
Charleston, South Carolina - Be sure to eat at Poogan's Porch, 72 Queen St....and order the Shrimp and Grits! Open Brunch through dinner. (It's named after a cute stray dog who stopped by...and stayed.)
Brooklyn, New York - The Brooklyn Museum has one of the finest Egyptian collections in the USA.
Seven Seas Navigator Seven Seas Navigator - Regent uses the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables. Perfectly nice hotel, IF you're a conventioneer! Nowhere NEAR the beach. Stay someplace more "Miami", like in South Beach. Yes, you'll have to get yourself to the hotel and the ship, but how hard is that?!
Miami, Florida - Some cruise lines use inland hotels. BORING! Stay the night before the cruise in Miami Beach...We chose the Impala Hotel in South Beach. It's much more economical, because it doesn't have a pool or restaurant. (It's attached to an Italian Restaurant.)
Miami, Florida - If you have a few hours to kill before sailing...the Port is right next to Island Queen Cruises, which has tour cruises of Biscayne Bay, the Millionaires' homes, etc. It's at 401 Biscayne Blvd. We loved our tour! (305) 379-5119
Seven Seas Voyager Seven Seas Voyager - Be sure to ask for a tour of the Bridge. (Your Butler can arrange this, or the Desk.) It is AMAZING how they maneuver this ship. PS Tel the Captain if you like him to sound the horn leaving port. I don't think they know how popular this is!
Copenhagen, Denmark - If you stay at the Marriott, you'll be right on the water AND only two blocks from Tivoli Gardens.
Seven Seas Voyager Seven Seas Voyager - in some ports, it's pretty long walk to the tour busses. If walking is a problem, ask the wonderful Regent crew to take you inane of their wheelchairs. You can't KEEP the chair for the tour, but at least you'll get to the bus!
Seven Seas Voyager Seven Seas Voyager - Regent's land tours in Tallinn, Estonia all seemed to require a LOT of walking on rough cobblestones, etc. The shuttle into town only went to a lackluster outskirt of the interesting part of town, requiring MORE walking to get anywhere interesting.
Helsinki, Finland - The Markets at the Port, both the "Old Market" and the outdoor market, are charming, with LOTS of delicious-looking foods, and nice gifts. Be sure to look for the hot-pads made of birch twig rounds. Great gift, and easy to pack!
Seven Seas Voyager Seven Seas Voyager - Get to the Shows a bit early, so you can order a drink. They will stop serving when the entertainment starts.
Copenhagen, Denmark - Wonderful city! EVERYONE speaks perfect English. Be sure to at least take a canal cruise. Combine it with the Hop-on/Hop-off bus if you have time to see buildings, etc.
Warnemunde (Berlin), Germany - Some cruises get here on a Sunday. Get Euros before, because banks are closed then and there are no ATMs near the port.
Warnemunde (Berlin), Germany - We didn't take any of Regent's tours. Too much exertion for my husband, who is not a strong walker. (THREE hours by bus to Berlin??) NEXT time, we will see what interesting places the train at the pier will take us.
Seven Seas Voyager Seven Seas Voyager - The espresso machine at Coffee Connection on Deck 5 makes WONDERFUL cafe-au-lait. Also, there's almost always something great for a "continental breakfast" or a snack.
St. Petersburg, Russian Federation - A big part of the fun is the fractured English of some of the guides. If you can record with audio, be sure to do so. I'm still sorry I didn't. example: "(Ve have many manifestations in dis square." ...meaning "We have many demonstrations..."
Seven Seas Voyager Seven Seas Voyager - Breakfast at La Veranda is a quick, delicious buffet. If it's warm, eat out on the rear balcony.
Seven Seas Voyager Seven Seas Voyager - Be sure to visit the Observation Lounge, especially when leaving port, (or when coming in, if you're up that early.) It's a beautiful, panoramic view, with a nice bar and lovely piano music in the evening.
Tallinn, Estonia - The pier is not walking distance from the interesting parts of town.
Helsinki, Finland - Charming people and city. Be sure to go to the Market, and have some local money for food treats!
Seven Seas Voyager Seven Seas Voyager - Voyager is an understatedly elegant ship, with passengers' comfort foremost. We found the other passengers to be charming, which I suppose is a function of the natural-selection of those who desire this kind of.many who luxury travel.
