Oosterdam

February 2017 - Oosterdam to Caribbean - Western

Disapointing

Traveled with friends who had never taken a cruise before and I was responsible for getting them on Holland. I booked them a veranda and I selected an inside as I was originally going to travel alone.  A friend decided at the last minute to go with.

From day one, the veranda cabin didn't have hot water at the sink or shower.  We contacted maintenance and they fixed it for one day.  It reverted to tepid at best in both the sink and shower.  Our inside cabin suffered the same fate as we had no hot water at the sink and it was tepid to warm at best even after "repairs".

The biggest disapointment was the "Vista Dining Room".  On three seperate occasions one of our group ordered his steak "rare".  When our meals were brought to the table his steak was "well done".  Of course they replaced it but by the time he got it a second time the rest of us had finished our meal.

The entertainment was also disappointing.  The piano players in the "Billboard" did not project over the piano's even with microphones.  The "Lincoln Center" performances were a joke.  Performed in the main open passageway outside the "Vista Dinning Room"  were constantly being interrupted by noise and people passing by on their way to the dining room.

The only positive part of the trip were the bartenders, Tanjo and Tony in the Crows Nest Bar.

Oosterdam

November 2016 - Oosterdam to Europe

Norovirus Shut Down Cruise

The first five days of the cruise were delightful.  Nice weather, good ports and plenty of diverse activities.  Then the Norovirus took over the ship and it became miserable for the 8 day crossing from Madeira to Tampa.  Most of the good entertainment got off in Malaga and we were stuck with mediocre comedians, magicians, Abba impersonators.   The show the last night out was by far the best of the cruise and was said to be a new one not preformed before by the Ships entertainers.  With the on board activities curtailed because of the virus, the few lectures and cooking demo's were overflowing.  The Lido became stand in line city for everything....I stood in line for 15 minutes to get a cup of coffee for my breakfast only to have them tell me they were out of regular coffee and only had decaf.

Westerdam

January 2016 - Westerdam to Caribbean - Eastern

Celebrity Silhouette

Zuiderdam

November 2014 - Zuiderdam to Caribbean

jessbeaty's Tips

Belize City, Belize - Be very careful when selecting an excursion in this port. There is no dock and the harbor is very shallow, ships have to anchor 5 miles out to sea and you have to be tendered in. A one way trip, once you are on the tender takes a min of 30-45 minutes.
Malaga, Spain - Take the excursion to the Alhambra if you have never been to Spain or Granada. Definitely worth the effort to see this magnificent palace.
Oosterdam Oosterdam - The Crows Nest Bar has the best views on the ship and the bartenders are the best.
