December 2016 - Carnival Triumph to Caribbean - Western
Enjoyable cruise experience. Food and entertainment were good. Service was decent. Extra purchases were not overly expensive.
Cabin and passageway on our deck smelled like the "head" for the whole trip. The crew had a blower on in the passageway for the entire trip with some sort of deodorizer that didn't really help. We renamed Deck 6 the "Poop Deck". The "pullout couch" was not sufficient to sleep in for a 5'6" 14 year old. He made due but that should have been a little more transparent when booking.
Service in the restaurant was a bit disjointed. Long waits while we were seated, some times due to the "floor shows" that the wait staff seemed required to perform. Food was good some nights and not on others. The other food offerings (Burger bar, Deli, buffet) were generally better.
The shore excursion (VIP Tulum trip) was very enjoyable. It was a bit rushed due the amount of travel required to each stop. However, very friendly guide (Martin) who kept us on pace but still let us see what we came to see.
Spent a lot of time with the Park West art group, attending two of their auctions and purchased a few pieces. Very helpful and friendly. That was an unexpected fun event.
Getting on and off the ship in New Orleans was easier than expected and was handled very well by the crew.
Overall, would take the same cruise again but would hope that there weren't some of the same issues.
