Best Friends Cruise February 2018

I went on this cruise with one of my best friends who had never been on a cruise. We only visited one port, but it was Cozumel, one of my all-time favorite places to visit. My friend had never been scuba diving, so we booked a Discover Scuba Dive with a local vendor (www.scubaxoc.com - Ask for Carlos, he’s terrific!). I’d have booked one through Royal, but they did not offer a Discover Scuba Dive on this sailing. The ship felt like it had been well taken care of, and only showed its age the way a fine wine shows its age. I think Vision-class ships may be my favorite, because they have a lot of windows allowing seeing the water from anywhere on board. Vision had a lot of really nice spots to sit and just enjoy the passing scenery, or take in the water views with your favorite beverage. I spent a good bit of time in the Solarium, which is an indoor environment. It did get fairly warm in there, but taking a quick dip into the pool was a nice respite from that. I found there was always ample room and enough chairs to be able to have a seat especially on sea days. I LOVE that Royal was able to put an Izumi on this ship, and the location is great; just off the Viking Crown Lounge. Your cruise will not be complete without a visit up to Izumi.

Birthday Cruise on Anthem

Took myself on this cruise for my birthday - I love Bermuda, and had been very interested in seeing what Quantum class ships were all about. The ship definitely feels unique compared to other classes of ships, namely in that there is not as much outdoor deck space as other classes of ship. The ship has 4 main dining rooms, which all have different decor but offer the same menu. The quality of the food was on par with other cruises I’d been on; tasty and fresh, and nicely prepared. I preferred dining in the specialty restaurants, namely Jamie’s Italian and Izumi. The Spicy Miso Ramen at Izumi is incredible. I can’t wait to go on another ship with an Izumi to enjoy this deliciousness again! We only stopped in Bermuda for the day, and I spent most of the day at Horseshoe beach, one of my most favorite places to visit in all of the Caribbean. Bermuda tends to be on the expensive and somewhat upscale sides, so keep that in mind when walking around especially in downtown Hamilton. I had rented a scooter and went to Hamilton after my visit to the beach, but felt out of place walking around downtown in a tank top and bathing suit, so I didn’t spend a lot of time downtown. Kings Wharf is a good distance from downtown, so definitely plan ahead before getting off the ship since “a quick run back to the ship” really isn’t feasible if you’re only on the island for a day. It took about 35 minutes to get from Hamilton to the dockyard. Had I known I’d have brought a change of clothes before going downtown. People on Bermuda are very warm and welcoming, and I can’t wait to go back. Time to browse more cruise itineraries!

Cruise Tips

Vision of the Seas

Vision of the Seas

Vision isn’t the newest ship in the fleet, but it’s been well taken care of and has plenty of life left in her. At no point did I feel like I was on an old ship, but the ship debuted in 1998.

Anthem of the Seas

Anthem of the Seas

This ship is designed for all types of weather, so it doesn’t feel like it has as much outside deck space as others.
