Yahoo Travel article - bad cruise decisions

It is a rather lengthy article so I am posting a link herein.

https://www.yahoo.com/travel/the-30-worst-decisions-you-can-make-on-a-cruise-121555670117.html

What are your thoughts on the truth of these items?

There are so many things that struck me as being true on this list.  One that seems to befuddle a lot of people is "Ignore all the extra expenses when you compare cruise prices". This sounds easier than it actually turns out being.

Often these expenses are difficult, if not impossible, to find out ahead of the cruise. After cruising for so many years, we can estimate expenses and add those. This helps when deciding whether to book a balcony versus inside/oceanview.  The 123Go special at Celebrity made us really sit down and figure out which cabin type made the most sense.

Aisha - you are very welcome! Don't be shy about asking questions.  This is a great forum. From my personal experience, Cruiseline.com is much less judgmental than some of the cruise line specific groups on sites like Facebook.

Good article.  They did not mention that most cruise lines show the excursions and prices for them on the web pages. Also apps like Ship Mate have non ship excursions and tips of where to go in each port recommended restaurants and sites to see.

Good article for newbies with good advise.  The cruise Website is a great place to start for information about the cruise line and the particular ship that you are sailing.  Be sure to consult the deck plan carefully and check out what each of the small symbols mean that appear by your cabin's number.  Check what's above & below your cabin also..

I agree. I thought this was a great list of things to keep in mind for cruising novices.  I am sure we can all add a few items.

The article left a few things out......

Don't attempt to get to the adjacent cabin via the outside of the ship.  Use the hallway.

Don't leave your children unattended. EVER !!!!!!!!!

Don't blame the Cruiseline when they don't let you board because your paperwork was not in order.

You can keep telling yourself the ship will wait, and that they always allow at least an hour for people to be late, but you'll be sorry.

Saying things like, come on honey, cab drivers in this country would never steal from an American. They need our tourist dollars.   Will sometimes end in one hell of a story when you get home. And a foreign police report.
