Here is an article with some interesting statistics about the major cruise lines and the smaller ones too, looking to the future. They base their conclusions on new ships being planning or coming into service in future years.
Will Carnival Remain the Largest Cruise Line in the Future?

According to the article you posted/referenced - NO!
I think when you look at the big picture, Carnival Corp. will still be the largest, if the Carnival cruise line does not grow in the foreign markets Carnival Corps other brands will. Just as Americans do not take to Costa, Europeans and Asians may not take to Carnival's American Walmart style of cruising. (Now before all you Carnies jump on me for that statement, I like Carnival and have cruised with them 8 times, but they are the floating Walmart........and I do buy some things at Walmart)
I'll still sail Princess and occasionally NCL no matter how large RCCL gets. Doesn't matter for my future plans. And I do think RCCL and her sister companies will grow larger than Carnival group but I think it will only make things better over all for the industry as there will be more choices.

I completely agree with you, but we have only cruised 5 times. Being the "Walmart" of cruiseline's they appeal to every budget, lifestyle and age. They are a great way to begin a cruising experience because they are casual and fun.
There will be only one cruise line in the future, and it will be owned by Taco Bell. Winner of the fast food wars. Bathrooms will utilize three seashell method of self cleansing.

Taco Bell can't even keep a Chihuahua on staff -- how do you think they can run a cruise line?
I think that the Dollar Stores will create a cruise line to rival Carnival

Although we have a Walmart pretty close to where i live, I rarely shop there. My husband says that the workers all need a good dentist. For the most part, prices are good there.

However, Carnival could also buy older ships from other companies to expand their fleet.
RCCL is getting bigger and bigger everyday
