Will Carnival Get Its Own Private Island?

Although other major cruise lines have their own private islands - RCCL, NCL, Princess and HAL, the largest cruise line, Carnival does not.  That may change.  Recently Carnival petitioned the Bahamian government for permission to build a private island on Eastern Grand Bahama.  This island is one of the largest of the islands in the Bahamas and also the closest to the U.S.  It is too early at this time to know if it will be approved, but the news is exciting.  Freeport is not popular with passengers, many of whom do not get off the ship when it calls here.  See the link below for more information.

I think it will happen.

I am one of those disillusioned with Freeport. Although i do still get off the ship to walk around a bit, I don't stay long.

I hope that you are right. Thanks for replying.

Interesting but not surprising. Carnival has to remain competitive at all levels.

Carnival uses HAL's island rite now, I guess it is getting to busy on Half Moon Cay. The island would be to busy with more then one ship at a time.

I would prefer another port instead of the private island. When we were on Half Moon Cay it was just hot and humid with no A/C places on the island. We were off and back on the ship in an hour.

I agree, Carnival must stay competitive. I am sure that vendors can move their tents over to the new private beach area.
