My iPhone is set to make phone calls over wi-fi. My ship has wi-fi and I will have an account. Is there any reason to think that I wont be able to make a phone call to anywhere while the ship is out at sea? Thx

Wi Fi Calling on Cruise Ship
I just turn off my phone..... if it is that important they can call the ship on their dime.
All good advice above so I have little to add. Just do your homework ahead of time.
On my phones, I can enable airplane mode, turn on wifi and make calls. I have poor cell signal at home and sometimes turn on airplane mode to force calls over wifi at home in Denver. Suggest you try that once you have your phone prepared to do wifi calling.
Be aware not all ship internet is equal. On newer ships, any line, they have been installing newer next gen satellite uplink equipment that can support streaming and wifi calling. The problem is that cruise lines market the same wifi packages on all their ships even if their older ships have the older slow uplink equipment. I call it lipstick on a pig. For competitive reasons and to hide the fact that not all ships have been upgraded, they market them all as if they all have been.
RC does this and so does Carnival. They will sell you a more expensive package yet it doesn't work much better and you can't make calls over it. I'm not sure about Princess. People will argue after reading a cruise line website, but few people get it. They just fall for the marketing hype.
The best thing is to hear from someone who has sailed on that ship and tried to use the wifi for voice calls.
Oasis of the Seas for example, I had a flawless wifi voice calling experience but I also know that ship and all RC built since use the OB3 uplink gear. Early ships do not yet they market the same VOOM Surf and Stream on all ships and people have confirmed a poorer experience on many of the older ships.
Yes, please double check this before you rely on it.
Calling always makes me skeptical so it is definitely important to check. When my husband was still in the military I cruised with my family since he couldn't get the time off. We thought we had everything set up correctly and we were wrong. Thankfully it wasn't too expensive, but the couple phone calls I took from him, even though they were only a couple minutes each, did give us an extra expense we didn't expect.
Phone, meet safe. I'll get you out when we get back to NY.
