Why cruise?

What enticed you to take your first cruise?

My sister worked on cruise ships many years ago, but even with her staff discount we couldn't afford to cruise on her ship when our children were really small. Finally we took a 4 day cruise and I loved it.

Twenty years and one marriage later, my husband had no desire to cruise because we don't drink alcohol or gamble, and he was convinced that all ships were party boats. After many MANY years of encouraging him, he finally agreed to try a cruise, and he loves it! We've only been on 4 so far, leave for #5 in a couple of weeks and have our sights on cruises for spring of 2018. We still love land vacations so combine the two for an amazing holiday each spring.

I first cruised in 1996 on my honeymoon. As far as the cruise, it was an excellent time, but expensive, so I didn't really get bitten by the bug.

Fast forward to 2014, decided to do another cruise. I was surprised to find that balcony rooms sold for the same price as the OV did 19 years earlier. With pay increases and the price of cruising, I had been bitten hardBig Smile.

I find it more affordable than even a road trip, and a heck of a lot more enjoyable.

My wife allows 1 cruise per year, and I already have 2018 booked. 2019 will likely find me on a lengthier cruise than I am used to (hoping for a 15-30 day), as I will be retiring and will finally have the time. Strangely enough, I will also be getting a larger incomeSurprised

I agreed to cruise ONCE to prove that I would hate it.

Four years and eight cruises later, I don't hate it.

Keep trying -- I'm sure that, one day, you will find that 1 extra "special" cruise that will prove your point!Big Smile

My coworker kept telling me to try and I kept saying no way I'll be bored and will hate it. Finally 2015 he said there is a great price on a NCL Pearl three day reposition cruise. Will be a good opportunity to see if I like it or not. I loved it. Now have done five with two more booked this year.

I love waking up in a Port and simply getting off the ship and seeing a whole new environment without having to manuver through airports, drive through traffic and struggle to get somewhere. I would not fly to 90% of the posts I have visited.

Secondly, I love the peaceful feeling I get being on the ocean sailing along with the sun warming my soul....

I also like being able to get a huge variety of food choices 24 hours a day without turning on the stove or going to the grocery store!

I won the first cruise....but we found we truly enjoyed it and booked another, then another, then another.....

i had thought about a cruise for a while, then x'ed it off the list, thinking that Kyle would not be accepted well by the other passengers, then after i met Danyl, she spoke of how she loved it on her cruise. We kicked the idea around a year or so, then finally pulled the trigger. That was on the Imagination, now since then, we have been on the Fantasy and the Sensation and love it now. Land vacations do not measure up anymore for us.

Thanks Brian- I hope your story will encourage other families with special needs members to follow your experience.

I have to say Debbie hit on some of the reasons I love to cruise, also went we went to Niagara Falls, here is how a day goes:

Breakfast - Kyle and myself are up first, then Danyl hears us rambling around, she gets up, we go get breakfast and bring some back for others - $40 Lunch - we start getting hungry and that runs about $80 Supper - more expensive usually $100 Snack about 8 or 9 pm - another $30 - $50 for pizza, wings etc

That does not factor in doing anything or the drinks throughout the day.

I know that we have to drive to the ports and our usual port is MIA that is 12 hrs and an overnight stay somewhere, but when we get to the port, we park and relax for 5 to 6 days!!!!
