Pete, I think you wrote the wrong date...1998 was only 20 years ago and the Tropical was no longer in service. Maybe 1978?????

No Tropicale sailed for Carnival from 1981 to 2000. We sailed out go Tampa on a 4 day cruise to Cozumel in 1998.

Tropicale, May 11, 1986, Mexican Riviera out of Los Angeles.

My first Cruise

I was 5 when I went on my first cruise ship, the SS Meridian, which was owned by Celebrity. It has since been sunk, but when I went on it, I cruised from Boston to Bermuda. 25 years later, pretty much to the day, I repeated the same cruise on the same line with Celebrity Summit out of NJ. Next year, I am taking my niece on her first cruise: Norwegian Encore, which will be going from Manhattan to Bermuda. She will be 7 at the time of the cruise, not much older than Auntie was when she started cruising!

I remember looking at the SS Meridian for the first time, as that was the biggest and only ship I had seen at the time. My eyes, according to my Dad, got as big as saucers. All I remember thinking was "You....want me.....to go on THAT? Are you crazy?"

18 cruises later and my eyes still get as big as saucers, but not because of the ship. I just remember looking out at some of the piers for the first time and thinking how lucky I am to be going on cruises. I know a lot of people that can't even afford to go on one, despite the fact that they've always wanted to go on them. I can't help but think about all the experiences I never would have had if I didn't go on cruises. How many people can say they've been to where shows, such as "Gilligan's Island" or "The Love Boat" were filmed? Or how many people can say that they've been to some of NASA's most famous Launch or Splash Down sites?

Royal Caribbean, Enchantment of the Seas, 4-Night Bahamas, 04 - 08 September 2017 - a surprise 10th anniversary gift for my wife, and a surprise visit from Hurricane Irma.

Carnival Miracle in 2008 to San Juan, St. Thomas and Tortola.
