When Ships are late coming into port....

When a ship is late for debark, it may sen like no big deal, but can be a bigger issue than you think... All depends on the sailing port as well. What is everyone else's experiences?

Never had an issue as a cruiser, but as an employee.... That's a different story

I've only had one cruise that had departure issues and that was out of Ft. Lauderdale. The worse part was the "chatter" between the waiting passengers and the people who started to get irate. No one really knew what the problem was but the rumors began circulating. We were sailing to Princess Cay so I wasn't overly concerned about our potential delayed arrival there. The funniest thing was when the rumor started that if the ship hadn't sailed before dark, it wasn't going to ... you can't fix stupid....

I ALWAYS have Plan B when I travel so I hopped on my phone and reserved a rental car because I figured it would be a nightmare getting one if the cruise was cancelled.

I felt really sorry for the port employees because they were getting the brunt of the rage as though they were personally responsible ...

Turned out there were two people unaccounted for who had not disembarked the earlier cruise and there was a big "hunt" for them. I never did find out the outcome, sailed around 2 hours late, and arrived in Princess Cay on schedule.

Never had an issue. Hope it stays that way.

PS People who travel who can't handle delays and changes should stay home.

You mean? The whole world Is not created to keep them happy?????

We have left port late before, and it was always due to missing passengers ie: running down the dock as we pull away.... We always seem to make up time and make it to next port on time.

We didn't leave the home port of Galveston because the ship hadn't arrived from the previous sailing due to a medical emergency on board. It was one of the very few times we drove to a port of embarkation. We went to a nearby Mall for a few hours. Another incident, was when our ship had a "hard" docking in Cozumel and punched a hole in the side of the ship. We returned as scheduled and watched from above as the hole was repaired. As long as you keep informed as to the sailing time and are on board when you should be, relax it is a vacation.

Hmm .. sounds like 2 people who had the same pet peeve as was reported on a different thread here except they decided to act on it and not get off the ship Wink

So far never had a problem. When we were n the Victory we did get an e-mail telling us not to go to the port until after 1:00 because they were putting in new carpet in some of the cabins.

Thank you! This was me Saturday at work with the Pride. I had some very angry, hot, and irate people. I tried my best, but you can't please everyone.

I saw a SWA ticket agent being berated by a guy without mercy...he kept telling her he was going to get her fired blah blah blah ...like she personally caused the mechanical issues delaying the plane. Why people do that is beyond me .. you deserve a cruise for putting up with the cruisers lol
