When do you pack?

Out of pure excitement, how soon do you start packing? I'm a well known over packer and over thinker so I start about a month before hand. Clothes go in and out and by the time the trip comes, I know I'm positive about my choices. I have a neighbor that starts 3 months in advance and a co worker who packs the night before. Where are you all on that time line?

Good luck! I have faith in you!

My cruise is January 19, 2020 and I have already begun to set things aside that I will be needing. 😂 But generally a month or two in advance the suitcases come out and the packing begins. I am the worst for changing my mind on what clothes I am taking then get to port city and buy more.

My wife and I are planners but when it comes to cruises we enjoy taking it to the next level, almost getting into the fun of the cruise. We also use spreadsheets and the past cruise spreadsheets contribute to any wardrobe changes and additions in the next 2 cruises' packing plan. This starts 3 to 4 months in advance. You might say that isn't packing, but the additions and selections go into a closet where the cruise wardrobe is separate from our exile (I.E. time not on a cruise and working for vacation $) everyday clothing. This applies to electronics, toiletries, etc., with the only every day things we take for a cruise being a few travel clothing items and our phones. So during the last 2 weeks, we are pulling from the to be packed area and checking off the printed list of clothes and cruise tasks, such as stopping mail, sign up for police home watch, calling credit card companies, etc. So 2 weeks of packing suitcases, but 3 months of organizing suitcase contents.

A spreadsheet is an awesome idea! Really makes sure you don’t forget anything. I need to start doing this!

To make packing easy, we store everything only used for cruises or vacations in one closet. A couple of days before the flight, DH packs his swim/snorkel gear and electronics and I pack mine. Clothes, meds, and toiletries go into cubes then into suitcases and carry-ons before dinner. Cruise tags in protective covers go on, all is locked, weighed, and placed by the door for an easy escape! If we forget something, it is probably not important. Vitamin Sea is my go-to cure for everything!

Where do you get plastic cover for your cruise tags? I need to get some!

Highwind Cruise Tags are sold through Amazon and other vendors. Ours are four years old and have been on about 14 round-trip flights and 10 cruises. They are scratched up a bit but still seal perfectly. The stainless steel cable for attaching to the luggage is REALLY tough. I think they are about $10.00 for 6 or 8. We love them!! I gave some to my brother and he started using them on his computer/brief bag for work and on a laundry bag for dry cleaning. He was ordered by his wife to get her some more more for the luggage. They were for cruises, after all!! Trust me, you won't regret the purchase!!

Well...372 Days to our next cruise, and 13 days post our last cruise, my wife has already started packing for next year...

Although my mom is one of those people that pack the night before and have everything she needs and never rethink anything I am the complete opposite.

I usually start about 3 weeks out putting things in taking them back out, too much then not enough. About 3 days before I'm ready to actually put my things into my suitcase and leave it.

I've decided that when I return from my upcoming cruise in August I will wash my cloths and repack them for my cruise in January. At least that's the plan.

It amazes me the machinations and perambulations folks get into while packing...when, what stuff, and so on...especially folks who have cruised a lot and could probably do it in their sleep. So the thought occurs, "packing for a cruise" is just as much cruising as cruising itself...if y'all follow. You know darn well you're going when the "stuff" starts appearing...!!
