What's Next for Carnival ? Double Wide Ships ?

Reuters :    Carnival Cruise Lines has hit a new low in trying to identify with its core customer base.  The giant of the cruise line industry has partnered with YUM BRANDS, owners of fast food chains ; Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC, and Wing Street.

Every ship will be retrofitted with two of the four options in the coming years.   " this is a great deal for us " said a Carnival representative.  " it gives us a chance to serve the food our guests are accustomed to while on vacation ."

Next on the horizon for Carnival ?   Cabins with linoleum floors and wood paneling perhaps ?     Glued and framed jigsaw puzzles hanging on the walls ?   Wink

Love the comment.

The thought would be hilarious,...If it wasn't so close to the truth.

Don't get me wrong here...I'm a junk food junkie....but not when I'm on a cruise...

I had actually tried to change that part about the jigsaw puzzle.  I had added that Park West was going to sell them, glued and framed, for the novice art collector. But my I-pad froze up, and when I tried again it got lost in the cyber ethercloud.

I wounder if the appetizers will be cheese Wiz on crackers. I like Taco Bell when I'm to lazy to cook but on vacations, I want good food. Carnival has pretty good food in the MDR and great food at the Steak House. I can get Taco bell at home anytime, on vacation I want different. Maybe they will get rid of the shows and just have a giant TV for evening entertainment next, so guest have the entertainment they are accustomed to.

They could show reruns of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Yummy

When I saw this topic my first thought was, “Royal Caribbean already did that,” then I realized I was being too literal.

I certainly wouldn't get food from any of those venues on a cruise (okay, maybe Taco Bell at 2:00am if I’d been drinking – just for nostalgia's sake) but I understand the reason behind it.  Carnival has positioned themselves as THE cruise line for first-time cruisers and it’s important to give them a familiar environment.  There are people (Americans) who go to Europe but only eat in McDonald’s the whole time they’re there.

The important thing to us is what gets cut to make room for this.  We absolutely LOVE the food at Blue Iguana and wouldn't sail on a ship that replaced it with KFC.

Ok, what you guys need to realize is that when I write stuff like this, the source is usually the voices in my head. Something will pop in, that I think is kinda funny, and I tweak it a bit.  In the past I have written stuff that was quite believable, and actually had a few people searching the web for confirmation of the story.  It's just for laughs.    Have a great holiday.      BK

Well I completely bought into it!  Better watch out BAK, Carnival could run with this idea now and you wouldn’t get any credit at all!Big Smile

(And just when I was starting to warm up to the idea of Pizza Hut at sea…Sad)

I sent them an idea.  It was for a fondue type restaurant on board.   Never heard back

Carnival may not want it's passengers to have sharp item like a fondue skewer and ships do not like open flames....... as the end of the flaming baked Alaska of decades past.

No flame required. They could use those portable induction heaters and set the temp just high enough to keep the cheese or chocolate melted.
