What is Your Experience Using Uber?

Have you used Uber to get to a cruise terminal or to the airport?  Were you pleased if you did?  If you have not, would you consider it in the future?  Is tipping included in the price?

I have not used Uber, or other ride-sharing programs.

I am hesitant to let others drive me unless I am sure they are somewhat proficient and have proper insurance. At least taxis are licensed by the local and state government.

My husband drove for Uber for a short while. They check into your insurance and your driving record (at least they did for him). He only did locally but knowing the process and what he went through to be able to drive, I think I would take an Uber if I needed to.

Good to know!  Thanks for the insight!

A friend drives for Uber and he needed to do a small back round check, insurance and a couple of other things. He showed me how it works as fare and then as a driver. You can pick the size of vehicle,  how close a driver is and rate. Every transaction is done by credit card that you enter when you open an account as a rider. If you tip, you can either give a few dollars (he calls it stripper tips because it's always ones) or you leave it on you credit card. The driver goes by the route you pick. You will know the fare when you pick the driver.

Uber is half the price going from our Cocoa Beach hotel to Port Canaveral, than the hotel shuttle cost. We haven't decided to book Uber or go with everyone else , but we've got lots of time to weigh the pros and cons of Uber as we learn more about it.

So I gather that you would not like to be driven in a Self-Drive Uber car?

A car that drives itself? No, I would go crazy in one of those.

(Actually, I've gotten to the point I don't like to be in a car unless I'm drivingSad)

We took an Uber from Long Beach to LAX (Los Angles) on Tuesday and in spite of the pouring rain, heavy traffic, etc, "Reuben" arrived at the pier in 5 minutes of the call, got us to the airport in record time and it cost $33 total for two people and 4 suitcases! This Uber driver was smart enough to drop us at arrivals rather than departures and saved about 45 minutes of wait time in traffic.  Kudos to SWA also who I called at 6 am to change my flight and rebooked us at a cheaper rate TSA pre checked for a same day flight!

We used Uber when in NOLA and found them not much different than a cab (other than price). It did feel a tad odd when paying with my cc though. The driver had this little attachment to his cell phone that scanned the card which uses an app on the phone to charge it.

I prefer Lyft over Uber, only because you can tip the driver in the app on Lyft, where you can't on the Uber app.  No money exchanges hands and I have never had a driver use an attachment to charge my CC, as I entered my CC info into the app for both Lyft and Uber.
