What are some common questions and answers when going on a cruise?

I'm a newbie on the cruise scene.  What are some common questions to the cruiseline/ship before going on the cruise?  (and answers if you already know).

For example, Can you bring bottled water on board?

Carnival ships no longer allow "bottled" water; too many people smuggling booze in that way. The water on the ship is fine or you can order water from the fun shops.

Q: Can I bring alcohol onto the ship?

A: Most cruise lines will allow one bottle of wine per adult to be brought onto the the ship, but may impose a corkage fee. Most cruise lines do not allow any hard liquor to be brought onto the ship.

Q: Can I smoke and or vape on the ship?

A: Vaping and smoking are considered the same and can only be done in designated areas. Many cruise lines do not allow smoking in your cabin or on your balcony. Check with your cruise line for clarification.

Q: Do have to I have to pay extra for food?

A: While there are specialty restaurants on many ships that are an additional cost; most ships have a main dining room and a buffet that are included in the price of the cruise.

Q: How will I know where and when to go for activities on the ship?

A: You will receive a daily schedule delivered to your cabin. Many cruise lines are now going digital and you will be able to download this information to your cell phone.

That should be a good start. Let's see what others come up with.

You can bring 2 bottles of wine on board on RCCL per cabin and 1 bottle of wine per passenger on Carnival

You can also bring on canned bottles of soft drinks-usually a six pack per passenger although that might differ on various cruise lines

You might want to identify the specific cruise line you are going on to distinguish the generally similar policies of the various cruise lines

How many formal nights are there?

This varies by the cruise line

Some of the most unusual questions I’ve seen on a forum included asking what direction the bed faced because the person could only sleep if it was facing a certain way. Another asked if they could take a rice cooker on their cruise because they only ate white rice.......

1. The bed faces away from the wall.

2. Yes, you can take your rice cooker. The cruise line will be happy to store it until you debark.

Q: Can I hang my hammock on my balcony.

The simple answer is, no.

Thank you very much!
