Ever attended or planned a wedding (or vow renewal) on board a cruise ship? What were some of the plusses and minuses? Would you do it again?
Weddings & Vow Renewals at sea
Our Alaskan cruise was for a 25th vow renewal for some good friends. It was beautiful and they were very happy with all the arrangements. They have started talking about doing it again next year for their 30th. Hmmmmm?!?
A wedding on a glacier! Now that would be memorable.
Witnessed a few but never participated. All in the party seemed to be enjoying themselves.
My wife and I will be renewing our vows for our 10 year anniversary onboard Symphony OTS in April 2020.
I took the time, and priced it out, for our sailing party of 13(including us). RCI wanted $1900 for:
- Wedding Planner Day Of, and pre-cruise
- Pre-Recorded music
- Champagne Toast
- Stateroom Decorations
- Breakfast In bed on 1 morning
- Dinner for the 2 of us in a specialty restaurant on one night
- Use of a on-board venue for 45-60 min
- Dedicated Photographer for the duration of the venue use
- 2 layer cake.
I politely, yet firmly told them where they could shove their Package.
Instead, one of my sailing mates will be the officiant, his girlfriend(a professional wedding photographer) will be taking the pictures, and my wife's maid of honor will be doing the rest of the organizing for me. On the First formal night, we plan to find a nice quiet spot for 15-20 min or so, and send 2-3 people to the bar with everyone's SeaPasses to collect the champagne toast.
I got invited to go to a wedding on a cruise for my cousin...too bad I couldn't go due to school vacation being the week before! I heard it was nice though.
I've also had friends of the family get married and do a destination wedding. It's certainly for much smaller crowds, as the travel expenses can be quite high.
