Yes, the price may have been $799pp BUT that doesn't include port fees & taxes. For a 15 day cruise for 2 guests, $220 sounds about right. After you booked, you should have gotten a statement from your agent showing the TOTAL charge for your booking INCLUDING port fees and taxes.

In response to review, CrusinTim says ...
Just for "comparison" purposes, I was charged $366.85 extra in port charges & taxes on my December 10-night cruise. So your extra charges are not out of line. Remember Princess would charge you extra for port charges and taxes, too. Port charges do vary, also so comparisons are really pointless.
On Nov 7th the advertised price was $799 each. I did not check the confirmed price until I got home as we discussed the price with Carmen. We got charged $1,018 each or $220 more per person than what I booked. Carmen said the price had not changed. Had I been told the price changed, I would have book with Princess instead. This is totally unacceptable. I have left 2 messages with Carmen with no response.
The ship was older with lots of maintenance issues. There was some good entertainment and what made the cruise special was every night with Jeremy, the Piano man.
Until I get the price issue corrected, I will never us nor Holland America again.
Come back and let us know how disappointed you are after, you fail in your quest and 2 after you finally read your invoice when you purchased your cruise.
Also, you failed to tell us who Carmen is and if Carmen works for the cruise line or your friendly neighborhood Travel Agent.
Have A Nice Day
I don't understand your complaint. When you booked your cruise through the agent you trust, or the agent at the line of your choice. You will always receive or have access to all the information in your cruise contract. Did you not read any of the information provided to you?
Let us know how you managed to cruise 7 + times without ever knowing about Port fees and other charges.
Being a seasoned cruiser, 7 plus, as you indicate you are, I'm assuming you know all about port fees, port taxes, etc, which ain't included in the base price, ever. So what happened? You saw the "advertised price" and made a deal but then after "you got home" you noticed "Carmen" may have mislead you and did the old shell game trick on you. You should have yelled before you paid Carmen. But then you waited until you got home you say, then you noticed the price was much more, unfortunately Carmen no speak English or whatever after that, you say. Next time, deal directly with the cruise line and forget the middle "man/woman".
Sorry to read that you feel that you were over charged.
