Tourist Killed at Maho Beach

Famous as a tourist spot, Maho Beach in St. Martin is located so close to the airport that one can "feel" the planes overhead when landing and taking off. Recently a tourist was killed while doing this ...do you find this practice dangerous?

The Caribbean territory of Sint Maarten has long been a hot spot for aviation enthusiasts.

Princess Juliana International Airport is just metres from the beach, giving beachgoers the chance to watch planes take off.

But a New Zealand woman died after being thrown backwards by the force of a jet engine.

BBC News website readers who have visited the island share what it is like to experience jet engine blasts overhead.

I was just reading that on the news! We loved watching the planes there, and there are warning signs everywhere about the danger of being too close. Unfortunately many people think they are invincible.

Moral of the story... Don't be stupid and be drunk on a balcony and fall overboard and don't stand behind a 747 coming in on full power before reverse of engines

To quote Forest Gump " Mama said,  stupid is as stupid does"

agree with all of the above posts; Warning signs, drunk, stupid.

This assumes many bad things about the individual killed today. Sorry. But again, read the earlier posts. Head warning signs. Live!

I'm trying to be sympathetic, but I find myself laughing too hard.   I mean, c'mon.   Really ?   Blown backwards by a jet engine ?   That's like standing on the railroad tracks, looking into the tunnel, and asking what that bright light is coming at you.

Here is some file footage.  These people are idiots.

If they close it, there will still be people dumb enough to climb fences (or whatever) to get that "thrill".  I think I'll pass!Surprised

I have to admit that we did go there to watch the planes but we weren't as close as these people.  It was many years ago.  We did not go for the thrill of the blast, though, but just to watch the planes.  We were well back. The video was crazy.

We really enjoyed it too and stayed closer to the restaurant. The blast from the planes still created a mini sandstorm each time making things like towels, blow around. Common sense is lacking when people ignore the signs.

Common sense is not very common!  It often amazes me the stupid things people do.
