Thoughts on the Miracle

Thought I would share some of my thoughts from our time on the Miracle. Our last cruise on Carnival was 12 years ago. Since then we have sailed primarily on Princess, Holland & NCL. I was not sure what to expect after hearing so much over the years. 

 

 We found the crew to be outstanding and always willing to help. I liked that they put a water picture on the table in the MDR. We thoroughly enjoyed the Punchliner Comedy club and the Serenity area at the back of the ship. The musicians throughout the ship was outstanding. 

 

Food: MDR was not good, we did not receive a hot meal the entire cruise. Bland at best. Buffet wasn't much better. Best Pizza I have had at sea! The grill was good. Soft serve ice cream deadly! Had to stay away.

 

 What I found odd. Several occasions we were in the buffet and saw several tables in need of bussing and they would stay that way. The odd part for me was passengers would start to buss a table they wanted to use and the staff watched them. Nothing I have ever seen on a cruise.

 

We had two unusual occurrences on this cruise. The first there was a landslide on the dock in Skagway a couple days before we were to be there. Rendering the dock unusable. The Captain and his staff was able to flip our two ports b/t Skagway and Juneau. 

 

Then second was our last sea day before heading home. We were in the theater waiting for a lecture. The was a loud pop and the lights went out. We were dead in the water. The Captain came on and advised us what had occurred and they were working on it. We were underway within the hour. Both instances we kept advise. Great job by the Captain and his Staff.

 

We had a good time and will sail Carnival again given the right itinerary. The food issue I found disappointing. However, I do know this changes between ships. Hope I didn't bore you. I did write a full review.

Enjoyed and found the table bussing odd too.  On Princess, you have to guard the plate if someone gets up for more or it's whisked away ...

Thanks for posting the review and this forum posting as well.  Very interesting.  I also found the Carnival staff to be outstanding but their food in the buffet not so good.   

 

I've had the same experience as you two about the buffet bussing on Princess.    They are almost too fast in getting the tables cleared.  But I like that better than what I've seen on Carnival with bussing tables.

Thanks for posting.  I have noticed both over exuberant bussing and non-existing bussing on Carnival.  Princess on the other hand, I agree with the others. Sadly, a hot meal has been lacking in the MDR on both our last 4-5 cruises.

Thanks for posting. We really enjoyed everything about the Miracle when we cruised on her just a couple of years ago. I don't remember any issues with the tables not being cleaned, and we eat breakfasts and lunches on the Lido every day. Sorry that dinners were disappointing too - we've always found the food to be satisfying, but it really is just banquet food when they are trying to feed a couple thousand guests at the same time. It must be hard to bring that many dishes from the galley to the MDR and keep them hot even when covered with a cloche. Maybe we just talked so much that the meal cooled and we didn't even notice. LOL

The bussing issue is one we haven't experienced.  I have placed a full plate of food on my table along with a wrapped set of silverware, gone the short distance to get a beverage, and come back to find my plate gone Crying  Dirty dishes left on tables is a pet peeve of mine--I hope Carnival gets their act together on this.  Prompt and friendly service is one of the things we have enjoyed most.  If Carnival allows that to decline, IMO they are losing one of their best selling points and they are going to feel the effects in a hurry.

Naw I don't think you talk to much.Happy.  I think it was just off on the Miracle. We spoke with some Platinum and Diamond folks. They were also disappointed. A lot of times I think it has to do with the execu chef. We have been in long cruises where the chef changed in the middle of the cruise. Food went from good to great in less than two days.

I hope you are right about it just being an off cruise for the bussing and meal service, and not cutbacks causing the service to go downhill.

We spent 14 days on Miracle leaving from New York, going thru the Panama Canal and arriving in Long Beach Calif.  NO FOOD problems at all.  Wait staff and servers were OUTSTANDING!!!
