The Truth about Hurricane Hit Areas

So do tell fellow cruisers ... what are your first hand experiences with places devastated by last year's hurricanes?  The truth please ...

Grand Turk was close due to the hurricanes and we had an extra day at sea that the DGF used to visit the ship, go to the many events available to do, and have a very long brunch.

Amber Cove reopened and our cruise was the first ship to port and the port was beautiful and had the smell of being new. However, outside of the port was different.

Half Moon Cay showed no signs of any damage and we had a good day on the island.

Nassau was Nassau....Nervous

Glad to hear ... I enjoyed Amber Cove!  Contemplating a Caribbean quickie in the next month...

I sent you a shipmate request.

We were the second cruise out of PR and it was a very sad sight.  Hopefully, lots of progress has been made.  We had to miss St Martin.

Our December visit to Grand Turk revealed that work was being done.  A lot of devastation and debris still about, but shops and beach operating normally.  After that experience, January in Old San Juan was bit shocking as many of the big name shops were still boarded up.... but when we chatted with some folks at the Fort, they said much of the Island was recovering and other parts not so much.  We asked if the Fort had been used for shelter and they said no the schools were.  Our basic observation was that the dollars brought in by the tourists was helpful and the locals were willing to tell their tales.

I also sent a friend request via shipmate!Wink

We were in Grand Turk, Amber Cove and Half Moon Cay in March and saw no signs of damage. We saw more downed trees in Fort Myers after our cruise.

Good info thanks all.

I'm not on Shipmate ... I need to do that one of these days....

I figured since I finally moved from the flip phone to a smart phone, I might as well.  Some interesting things over there.  Besides the is PM (personal message...I think... still getting used to the lingo) available.

I think when I checked that my smart phone is too stupid cuz it's a windows phone BUT my new IPAD should work if I get around to it ...  it's btbw@cox.net by the way.
