The Lido Deck

Have you ever wondered why all ocean liners always have a Lido Deck, where the main pool is located? Although the names of the other decks change from ship to ship, there is always a Lido Deck.

Well I decided to find out so I researched it and now you don't have to do so.  It seems that the word Lido comes from the Italian word for Beach.  Originally, the Lido Deck and Pool were exclusively reserved for First-Class Passengers. Now, however, all passengers use the Lido Deck and pool. Now you know the rest of the story.

Thanks Bubba54 for replying.  I was curios about this since every ocean liner that I had been on always had a Lido Deck and I wondered why since the names of other decks were often dissimilar.  You are never too old to learn something new.

I thought the Lido was the show at the old Las Vegas Stardust Casino back in the 1980's ?   The show had nothing to do with a pool and the Stardust was most certainly not first class.Happy
