The cost of parking in NYC

People often ask, and complain, about the high cost of parking at the NY cruise terminal.   NYers don't ask because, quite frankly, we are used to paying out the a** for parking.    So I am going to try and explain the exorbitant charges.

It's quite simple really........

yup.   The Port of NY knows you need to put your car somewhere, so they charge whatever they want.   I estimate that each cruise ship that leaves on a 7 day voyage, generates about  $100,000.00 in revenue.   +/- a few grand.    And of course, that aren't responsible for your car while you are away.   $100K per week  and all they have to do is let the cash roll into their offices.

'I don't know who or which city office banks it, but it's a cash cow to them. Much like our bridge and tunnel tolls.

'So next time you park in NY, and you want to know why it's $40/nite, understand this.  You are only being taken advantage of for one week.  Some of us deal with this type of extortion on a daily basis.

Then again, I am sure that 100% of the revenue goes back into city services provided.

(yeah -- I don't believe it either)
