Texting for free

We are sailing out of Miami on the Carnival Glory next Saturday, April 28. Does anyone know of an app to download where we can text each other while onboard and in ports, for free?

I saw the Carnival Hub but don’t really understand if I have to pay $5/day to be able to text others and also, will it work (texting) while in ports? Any advice to keep all of us connected (for communication) while sailing is appreciated.

We have used the CArnival HUB app and it worked fine for us. The fee at that time was $5/device for the entire cruise. It won't work in ports since you are using the ship's wifi.

My guess is on land you will have to use your provider for that, but on the ship, the Carnival Hub app should work. It's $5 per line.

$5 per line ? as in, per line of text ? Or per phone line ?

Does NCL have the same?

I don’t know. I throw my phone in the safe.

$5 per device for the entire cruise.

The Carnival Hub app only works while on the ship. You may be interested in downloading a phone app (doesn’t work on an iPad) called What’s App. My son travels all over the world with work, and keeps in touch with us using it. It’s completely FREE to send and receive texts.

Thank you very much - this helps a lot.

You’re welcome. We are all here to help each other with our cruise related questions, recommendations, etc.

Happy cruising.

It's per phone, flat fee, so that $5 will last the whole cruise. I'm not sure if it works on land, but you can always check with your carrier before you leave to see if their texting plan will work.
