Stairs vs Elevators

This is taken from John Heald's Facebook page: How do we stop the younger and fitter guests who have no walking challenges from taking the elevators up and even sometimes down just one or two floors? It would really help the elevator traffic ...

In my opinion, the elevators are there for anyone who wants to use them. Some of us older and less fit folks could benefit from using the stairs more than the young fit guests. I wonder if Carnival is planning to have an elevator monitor/fitness expert posted outside each area to determine if a person should use the stairs or elevators. WinkBig Smile

Use of the elevator should be an option for ANY passenger.

I use both. Not if its two or three decks though. But from the 0 deck up. I will use the elevator if the lines are not long. If anything keep the kids off of them.

Bad knees tell me which mode of transportation I need to use.

I completely agree.

Why husband uses the elevator because of knee problems too, but I prefer the stairs. There's no way, someone is going to tell him to use the stairs because he "looks" fit enough.

I try and use the stairs as much as I can to work off the buffet. On a cruse where I was recovering from a sprained ankle, then I used the elevators for almost everything.

I would think the bigger issue is why don't ships have more elevators so there would not be lines for them ?????????

I'm still young...ish... but on days when my asthma flares a single flight of steps can send me into a coughing fit. On my good days I try to take the stairs when I can, but my mom is a bit anti stairs.. so on our cruise we'll probably take the elevator a lot

The only issue I have with the elevators is when kids are playing in them.

I will go down the stairs many times, but when I'm going up more than a couple of flights, I generally use the elevator. IMO, we all pay our cruise fares and should be able to use elevators anytime we wish. That said, I will defer to an elderly person or someone on a scooter and wait for the next one.

Better be ready to defer to me cause I might run over ya...Big Smile

Elevator due to mobility issues. Unless it's one floor.
