Should Cruise Ships Have Lifeguards?

Disney is the first cruise line to put lifeguards at their pools. Should other cruise lines follow suit? What do you think? Might Carnival want to do the same?

As I am sure many have said, hiring lifeguards is not the answer to irresponsible parents/guardians, people who get so stinking drunk they can't tell they are face-down in water or people with known health conditions that push their limits ending in a medical emergency situation. Cruise contracts spells out every little detail relating to a cruise, as well as limited liability language. The problem is, few people take the time to really read their passenger agreement. Some of that is related to the fact that legalese is tough to comprehend for the average jo or josephine.

Cruise lines are taking this step thinking it is going to stop or lessen negligence lawsuits. The reality is, this may even worsen their legal position if a passenger drowns or near drowns in the pool area.

I agree. I would not want to have it increase the cost of crusiing for everyone.

Agreed!!

I NEVER go to public pools because the sounds of the whistles are like fingernails on a chalkboard. Now if the lifeguards used TASERS instead...

I was thinking of you when I posted it!

Er, I mean, Umm, I was thinking about a prior post of yours!Big Smile

Posted before I saw this. You beat me to the punchline :)

That's what hot tubs are for Big Smile

If the ship is paying somebody to "police" the pools, I'd rather they police the "Chair hogs", Keeping smoking in the smoking area, keeping kids in diapers out of the pool and keeping kids out of the adult only pools and hot tubs......... that would be useful.

Over the edge -- the kids on the downwind side, the drunks on the upwind sideBig Smile

Or, keeping the status quo, there's always the hot tubs.Sad

If you un-install the pools, where would the kids and drunks go pee ?
