Short cruise within a longer itinerary

Does anyone know if it's possible to embark on a cruise from one of the scheduled ports on a cruise and just cruise for one or two ports and then disembark?  Obviously, there would have to be an empty cabin available.

We stay in Cabo San Lucas during the winter and would like to be able to cruise from there to mainland Mexico but there are no cruises which start in Cabo. It would be great to be able to get on the ship in Cabo and cruise to a couple of ports on the mainland and then come back to Cabo as the ship makes its way back to San Diego or LA.

Thanks for any info you might have.

To my knowledge, none of the cruise lines allow you to join late or leave early (US based cruises, at any rate). There may be a local ferry service that would fit your need.

I don't think they will stop you from leaving the cruise early, not sure what it would take to join the cruise in progress. But either way, pretty sure you'll be paying for the whole cruise. Not a very good value.
