Shipmate chat vs Facebook

why do people go onto Shipmate, click on Chat, then proceed to tell everyone about a FB page for that particular cruise ?     Why not just use the Shipmate app ?

I think because most people are on and off of FB all day.

I know in my case at least when on Carnival it it just easier and less expensive to get on FB. Facebook is supported by their $5/day Social media plan and usable on any device including the public ship board computers. While to access Shipmate via my phone I would need to wait till in port or pay for the $25/day Premium Wifi package.

Also there are not as many people on the Shipmate roll calls that actively post. Most just check-in and are never heard from again. In fact for my upcoming cruise in Dec no one except myself (on 6/13/17) and 1 other poster (on 2/18/16) have made any comments in the roll call chat.

Great feedback - thanks, all.

I think a major reason for this is Facebook's notifications. They're very good about letting you know when there's a new chat thread. We're not doing this as efficiently right now.

We're planning to build out our notifications to alert you when there's a new thread from a user you'll be sailing with.

Would you rather a notification per each new  message? Or only a daily notification with the most "popular" thread from the day?

Thanks for the feedback! We're always looking to improve and this helps.

I have a FB account but don't use it. I care to tell the awesome folks on here about a cruise, maybe close friends and family but other than that, the rest can take a flying leap in a rolling donut.

I got that donut part from a 1949 movie.
