Ship Photos

Do you ever purchase the photos taken by the ship photographer?  When we first started cruising we did buy the photos because the whole family traveled together.  Now it is just the two of us so stopped.  Our recent cruise was a world so we did purchase photo packages.  It was a lot cheaper per photo when purchased this way.  I wish that the photos were a bit smaller and cost less.  I would then buy a photo album of photos.

We always budget for photos, albums and a few DVDs on the cruise. For one we get a lot of pictures taken and we can pick the best. The DVDs are a keepsake and we play them often.

The biggest complaint I hear is that there is a process which the lines make you feel that you have to buy the product. If you are polite and a good negotiator....you can get a lot more bang for your buck.

Yeah, we got 8 DVDs included plus all the candid(s.).

I hear you, Glomarrone.... After we explained the size of the family we ended up with an extra 10 albums and all the candids from our favorite Photog.

We still get E-mails from him from Brazil.

Not any more. Maybe one I'll buy if it's just too good and can't be obtained any other way. Digital photography and computers make everything so easy--including avoiding the ship's photography ripoff. Personally, I shoot video and stills so my bases are covered. The ship's photographers actually know less about photography than I do--I know because I've asked. I did buy a Dunn's River Falls DVD because I didn't want to risk the equipment I used at the time on the climb. Now, with an action-cam type of camcorder with a waterproof housing, I'd skip buying the DVD. When Dad's a photographer, who needs one from the ship?

See...this is NOT the kind of photo one can easily take, and why we pay the ship's photographer to provide them.

After 64 cruises (so far) we rarely purchase the photos anymore but we still let the photographers take them and we usually check them out – you never know when you’ll get that perfect Holiday card photo!

We are very glad we purchased the photo from just before we stepped aboard our very first cruise!  Talk about life-changing!
