Royal Princess to west coast?

Apparently there is validity to the rumor flying around in recent days that Princess intends to base the Royal on the west coast.

"It's official ~ Majestic to Australia and the Royal to California. More to follow Monday morning!"

If true, the big question is: L. A. or San Fran?

I would guess Los Angeles to do Mexico year round and a bit of Hawaii.  That may be part of the work Carnival is doing in Long Beach.

Some speculate that Princess may schedule the Royal through the new canal too. They begin 10 cruises through the new locks in October with the Caribbean Princess and will be the first cruise line to do so.

The Schedule on Princess site shows them still in the Caribbean in 2018 so I am confused ...

Interesting.  Me and a coworker heard that a big announcement is suppose to come out tomorrow.  I searched and read that Emerald Princess is coming to LA to stay.  But that was actually old news.  So might be a big surprise tomorrow.    I think it be wonderful if Royal came out west.  But as DVCruise mentioned I saw it on the 2018 schedule doing east coast sailings.

Since the bookings for the 2018 schedule are active, I would be upset if I booked a cruise for the Royal in 2018 east coast and found out it was a different ship ... However, I too would love to see it on the west coast eventually.

Okay bare with me but I do enjoy speculation as much as anyone else.

Idea number 1:  There's going to be two new Royal class ships to be built.  One for 2019 and other for 2020.  Maybe one of those will be stationed here in the west???  Maybe it won't be the Royal Princess itself.  Both years aren't too terribly far away.

Idea number 2:  Maybe the Royal will come in November of next year.  I looked at the schedule again and it's scheduled all the way through to October for trips out east.  Maybe in November it will head this way.

And adding onto my guess work that I admit is done with very limited knowledge, I don't see anything for the Grand Princess after September 2018.  Maybe the Royal will replace the Grand next fall???

All speculation of course.

I guess that we will have have to wait for an official announcement.

Well has any heard anything?  I've been looking on the internet for news including Princess' website but haven't seen or heard anything.

Nope, sounds like a lot of hyperbole about nothing. So much for the Monday announcement. Of course, the rumors still abound. And there may be some validity to those. Last word is the Royal will begin winter west coast service after Jan. 2019. Then return to somewhere else other than "west coast". Some say "Alaska" but being an Alaskan, I would say we are west coast. Go figure.   Anyway, sounds like a bunch of BS about something that may or may not happen. So far in the future who gives a "you know what".

In addition to what you've said, doesn't really matter what ship comes out west, I'm going cruising whether it's on the Royal Princess or the smaller Sea Princess or one of the ships in between.
