River Cruise & Seasick

Does anybody know how likely it is to get seasick on a river cruise? A friend & I would like to go on a river cruise but my friend got seasick on a regular cruise & is afraid of the same thing will happen on a river cruise.

Depends on how sensitive their equilibrium is to motion. For me, I use the patch.

Haven't gone on a riverboat cruise yet, but like ctav, I would use the patch just to be safe. If your friend has anything she can use for motion sickness, she could have it on hand for just in case. Many people prefer things like Bonine and ginger tablets. You'll also read that green apples are helpful. I can't agree or disagree on these, because once I tried the patch and it worked so well, I haven't stopped. My doctor knows this and feels comfortable prescribing it for me. I have one sister that it hinders her vision so much that she cannot use it.

I wish you good luck and know that I am a bit envious of this journey.

Hi Diane! We’ve been on 12 river cruises so far and have felt very little movement at all. Most common is a slight bump when entering a lock. You’re always in sight of land on both sides and there are no waves.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any river cruise questions at all. Happy cruising!

Thank you all for your responses. I guess my friend will have to decide whether or not she wants to take the chance.

Everybody is different, I can count on one hand how many times I've been sick on an ocean cruise out of the 17 ocean cruises I've been on. But It all depends on one's equilibrium. The most I usually get is "Land Sickness" when the cruise is over, which means that I walk into walls for a week....oh wait, I do that on a daily basis! Happy
