Carnival did reimburse our flight changes costs, but only to our cruise account. This is real money and should come back to the people booking directly. I guess something is better than nothing. If you do not use all the money get a carnival card with the funds to use later.

They, of course, have their best interest at the forefront. We found the same thing with Southwest Airlines when we had to cancel and had more than the flight with them. Plus with SW, we had to use the refund within a year of booking not a year from scheduled use. But, as you so ellequently said, something is better than nothing. It is good to know the “fine print”.
I can imagine that is very frustrating. But I like how you kept it positive with your view of something over nothing!
If you bought trip insurance (which includes travel to/from conveyance) see if you're covered. You might be surprised.
