Rental Cars, Golf Carts, Jeeps, & Buses

I use different modes of transportation when self-exploring depending upon the port. St. Thomas - rental car; Bonaire - golf cart, Aruba - Jeep.  I'm too uncoordinated for a scooter ... Hop on Hop Off Buses are one of my favorites if I don't feel like driving. How comfortable do you feel renting a vehicle?

Not very comfortable at all as you do not know the quality of vehicle and could leave you stranded and miss the boat.  Cab it for us, or walk or trolley.  Too paranoid over here

Bermuda, Bus pass and ferries.

Hawaii, Taxi and local bus transportation.

Cartagena Columbia.....secure transport from the cruise line

Panama, cruise line sanctioned tour.

Costa Rica. walking

All other stops, play it by ear when you get there.

In Cozumel I rented a scooter.  I know it can be dangerous and I do ride a Harley at home.  I give the bike a good look over before renting it.  Lights, seat, steering, horn and most specially the tire tread, tire wear and proper inflation.  I had no problems.

I have done Golf cart on Catalina island, rent a car in Hawaii and the Azores, subway in Rome and London, bus in San Juan PR and in San Diego, Taxi in tons of places (nothing as fun as a VW Thing Taxi in Mexico with the roundabout's after a few drinks)  I have also used Lino services in a bunch of ports.

One time in Mexico I joined others from the ship to hire a private tour at the port to take us around,  Just as we got off the ship and the guy was trying to get customers so a bunch of us said OK,  best tour I have ever had.  Five of us in a Chevy Suburban.   That was 20 years ago,  Mexico was safe back then and I was young.  Not sure if I would do that now,

My two feet and a taxi! when you are in places that have small narrow roads, drive on different sides of the road and I'm unfamiliar with the lay of the land, I resort to the experts.

We are the same - would never rent a vehicle in the ports.
