Preparing your home before you cruise

When going away, it's not just your suitcase the needs filling. What preparations do you make at home before you depart on a cruise (or any vacation for that matter)?

House sitter Pet care Making it look like someone is actually there Mail pick up Heat, water, and other utilities

Just a few ideas to get the topic rolling.

Perfect.

I would add bear traps under windows, just in case window spikes are defeated.

LOL...kind of like the clean underwear superstition?

We used to board the pets and set timers for some lights. Now that Mom has finally retired, we just fly her down to house/pet sit – so worth it!

Being single and no pets makes it easy.

1. Turn off the water under the sinks and at the water heater. I live in earth quake country,

2. Timer on lights, I keep a light on a timer year round. I don't like coming home to a dark house.

3. My neighbor takes in the mail, and puts the trash out and takes the barrels back in for me.

4. The gardener is here once a week year round.

5. If it is summer time neighbor will come in and turn A/C on the day I'm getting home. I Don't need heat in the winter, never to cold in So Cal.

I clean my house so that when I get home everything is perfect and in it's place

I'm weird where I need to make sure the floors are vacummed, the bed is made, laundry is cleared out (because I will have a suite case full of it),

we have to take our dog to my BF's grandmas,

trash DEF needs to be taken out,

bamboo plants and orchids need one last water or ice cube

Lights out/unplugged, air turned down (conserve energy)

I do the same. It feels so good to walk into a clean house after a vacation. A messy house after vacation is a real downer.

Right....especially since I don't unpack as soon as I get home.... At least the house is clean

Makes you think you have a stateroom attendant lol
