Pre-Cruise Fears

The two biggest things I worry about right before I'm getting ready to go on a cruise are 1) losing my license and/or passport and 2) falling and breaking or spraining something.

I never carry my passport unless traveling so that is irrational but I am extra cautious with my license and debit cards a few days before I leave.  I'm klutzy and have a huge yellow lab that likes to drag me on the leash if a rabbit appears

What do you worry about when single digit days approach?

I used to worry about falling off a ladder, or getting hurt lifting some pipe during that final week.  Eventually I just told my boss or partner that unless absolutely necessary, I'm the ground guy for the week.   I even kept the apprentice working while I went out for coffee. I wasn't taking any chances.

We're able to keep them working while getting lunch?

Nah.  Lunch is their time.  I never rode my apprentices.  I took time to explain and to teach.  Which is why several foremen stopped giving me apprentices.  Typical, they'll learn later, I need him for a delivery......not the way I was treated.   But I learned faster too.

A friend of ours tripped and fell while getting clothes out for his cruise, and broke his ankle so bad he was in having surgery the day he was supposed to sail. His TA was great at working to get him a refund (had no travel insurance), and they formed such a bond during the process that they are now a couple. A very happy ending after all.

A friend of ours called us the night before we all were leaving, and asked what I was doing.  Packing last minute stuff, just like you should be was my answer.   Her response ?  She was at the hospital because her bf, who was too lazy to shovel the driveway, slipped on the ice putting the luggage in the trunk, blowing out his knee.   We told her leave him home but she wouldn't.     Now, I think she regrets not coming with us alone.

Not really, once I ensure all the documents and passports are where they are supposed to be. My philosophy is if i forgot it and really need it, ill buy it.

Who got the better end of that deal?

My Mother is still living (Dad died last year), so I worry something will happen and we need to cancel the trip as we had to last year. After that I worry about weather delays going that last more than the extra day we have allotted... don't worry so much about the return delays. I check the weather several times a day for the whole week prior...I know I can't do anything about it, but....
